Three 4th of July Outfit Ideas

The 4th of July is always one of my favorite weekends of the summer. Depending on what day of the week the holiday falls on, I generally take a good amount of time off, pack up all of my favorite beach outfits, and spend more time in the water than on land. It's always such a sunny, relaxing little break that I am so looking forward to again this year! And while not going overboard, I do try to sport red, white & blue during the week of the 4th. Here are some outfits I will be rocking next week!
1. Stars & Stripes
You've got to rock at least one American flag over the week of the 4th! But there are so many ways to do it without looking cheesy. I scored these patriotic shorts on sale at Urban Outfitters a few years back, and I wear them almost every year for the occasion. My platform shoes can be found here.
2. Romping
I love rompers because of how easily they transition from day to night. I could wear this red, white & blue romper over my bikini during a 4th of July beach day, and then throw on some heels to dress the outfit up at night. My romper can be found here and my fringed heels can be found here.
3. Out on the Town
Once the fireworks have ended, paint the town red in a festive dress. If your heading to a casual house party, pair it with some comfy sandals like these nude lace-ups that are quickly becoming my favorites. If you are heading out to the bars, this dress also looks great with nude heels! My dress can be found here and sandals can be found here.
And if you are interested in any of the jewelry I'm wearing in this post, it's all from RocksBox! Have you heard of them? Essentially, they're a jewelry subscription service, where you pay a small monthly fee to receive pieces of fun, designer jewelry on loan. The coolest part about their service is the quiz you take before signing up, which helps you identify which types of jewelry you do and don't like so that each box will be tailored to your personal style. I tend to get tired of bracelets and necklaces pretty quickly, so the fact that RocksBox allows you to basically refresh your jewelry collection whenever you want is pretty awesome! Plus, if you really love an item and don't want to part with it, you can simply keep it when you send the rest of the box back, and RocksBox will just automatically charge you for the cost. I think the gold bar earrings in this post are definitely going to be keepers! And BONUS - if you want to try it out for yourself, RocksBox had kindly offered my readers their first month free when you sign up using the code lindseybachxoxo. I'm having so much fun with it and get so excited to get my new box in the mail - so I highly recommend it if you are an accessory lover.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Fourth! I'll leave you with some outtakes of what the 4th of July (and backyard photo shoots) really look like. ;)

This week on Marlborough 6.19

Happy Friday! I was in NYC towards the beginning of the week hosting a yoga-focused blogger event, so apologies for the lack of posting! And although the event was for work, it turned out the be exactly what I needed. I've had so much on my mind the last couple of months and it was nice to just take an hour out of the day to free my mind and relax. It's crazy how a good yoga session will do that for you!

Did anyone else feel like this week flew by? Between traveling and finally getting our wedding invitations out this week (hooray!), I feel like I blinked and it was already Friday. It's pretty nice when that happens. We will be spending a little time down at my grandparents' house in Westport this weekend (aka "the venue") getting some of our wedding ducks in a row. What's everyone else up to?

Oh, and a very happy Father's Day to all the amazing papas out there, Especially the Father-of-the-Bride of the year, my Dad!
Here are some fun links from around the web this week...

  • A terrible way to propose.
  • And a marriage proposal measured in heartbeats.
  • AND pet proposals that will melt your heart!
  • How to live like a fashion girl on Instagram. Such a funny read!
  • A peek inside Taylor Swifts Tribeca apartment
  • An incredibly adorable rabbit.
  • How perfect does this bus look in this artist's backyard?!
  • The wedding registry gifts you'll still use 10 years later, and the ones you won't.
  • In honor of Father's Day - a super cute video of guys finding out they are going to be Dads.

The first day of summer is on Sunday, so I can officially say have a great summer weekend! xx

Where to Register for Wedding Gifts (& Bridal Shower Photos!)

Registering for gifts has been one of the most fun parts of the wedding process for me so far. I mean come on, spending hours online and in stores looking at pretty things that could potentially be in your home one day? It doesn't get much better for any shopaholic. And josh doesn't exactly get quite as excited about dish towels and bedding as I do, but when I brought him into Home Depot and told him he could add whatever he needed to our registry, his smile was pretty big too. And what's even more special about registering is that when someone else gives you something you love or need as a wedding gift, you will be constantly reminded of that person every time you see it or use it together. It's almost like having a piece of every single wedding guest in your home forever. And that's pretty cool! When we set up our registry, we used MyRegistry.com (which I love because you can register for everything all in one place!) and had 3 goals in mind:

1. Think about guests
We have a decent amount of linens for our bedroom, but a lot of the items on our registry are for our guest bedroom, which we currently only have one pair of sheets for that we have to race to wash constantly when have friends stay over. And one day we might have multiple spare bedrooms, so we want to make sure we are stocked with bedding & towels for all the friends & family we hope to host!

2. Replace old stuff
Since we've lived together for a couple of years now, we have most of the typical items you see on registries, but a lot of it is still from college. For example: the folding laundry basket from my college dorm room that's falling apart, the combined mishmash of silverware we've used for 8+ years, and the drinking glass collection we've accumulated with various beer brands on them (which was pretty cool in college, but not so cool anymore). Replace!

3. Think about our future home
We don't have a ton of room for entertaining in our apartment now, but we hope to do a lot of entertaining in whatever home we end up in down the road! So a lot of what's on our registry now, like pretty gold-rimmed china, a gas grill, and a fire pit are things that we may not be able to use now, but will be so grateful to have for future entertaining.
And no matter what your registry needs are, here are the best places that I've found to look for gifts!

- For the basics: Pottery Barn, William Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Wayfair
Luckily josh and I have most of the basics between the two of us, but if you are starting from scratch, these are the places to look! They have everything "home" you would ever need, at varying price points and styles. As I mentioned, there are many items we want to "upgrade", and this is where we started.

- For the kitchen: West Elm, Provisions by Food 52, Anthropologie
These places have such pretty (and unique) kitchen items!

- For the bedding: Restoration Hardware, Urban Outfitters
Many places sell bedding, but when registering I was actually surprised by how much both of these stores offer when it comes to great sheets and duvet options on both ends of the spectrum - Urban Outfitters on more of the fun, affordable side and Restoration Hardware on the high-end, high-quality side.
- For the pretty: Anthropologie, One Kings Lane, Lulu & Georgia, Etsy
A lot of what's on our registry is admittedly to "beautify" our home someday, and I absolutely cannot wait to do that. If you are like me and are looking for pieces that both serve a purpose AND look beautiful, these are the places to find those pretty, decorative items.
- For the Fiancé : Home Depot, Terrain, Amazon, Target
Josh's registry picks certainly stand out a bit from mine and are very outdoor focused (a nice grill, fire pit, tent, and hammock), but are all things we both need and love. He also picked out some new power tools and bluetooth speakers, which were gifts that were so fun to receive at my shower because I knew how excited he'd be. If you want to have a garden someday (like josh) pots and planters are also great things to add to your registry!
And finally, here are some photos of my bridal shower this past weekend! A huge thanks to my Godparents and my bridesmaids who made it such a special and memorable day for me. The ladies in these photos are truly the best.

Have you found any other great places to register for unique gifts? I'd love to know! xx

This week on Marlborough 6.4

Happy Friday! Josh and I will be apart for our 6 year anniversary of dating this weekend having fun at my bridal shower and his Bachelor party, so we celebrated this week with a little stroll along the Charles River followed by sushi at our favorite local spot, Red Lantern. It's crazy thinking that all of these much-anticipated wedding festivities are starting and that next year we'll haven an entirely new anniversary to celebrate. For the last 5 years, we've always made a big deal out of our anniversary and gone on a fancy date or a weekend getaway, but with all of the wedding planning going on this year, it nearly flew right by without us even remembering! This year, we've got bigger fish to fry and a quiet night together was all we needed. But I am glad we remembered, because it left me feeling pretty lucky to get to walk through life with the guy in that photo.

But enough about josh. I'm so excited to spend the weekend with all the ladies I love most!! This is just the beginning of what is going to be a crazy & amazing few months ahead. My seatbelt is buckled!
And here are some fun links from around the web this week...
  • I would have a similar reaction to this woman.
  • I'm going to have to try cooking chickpeas this way!
  • I don't think my family necessarily falls into the birth order stereotypes. Does yours?
  • How one small change in your home can sometimes make all the difference!
  • A stunning tour of a Lake Como Villa.
  • The bond between this little boy and his duck is adorable.
  • Will definitely be catching a movie here this summer.
  • Such a cute pregnancy time lapse video!
  • It's National Donut Day!! Have you had a donut yet? Here's where to get your free one.
  • And in celebration of National Donut Day, three sweet DIYs. One.Two.Three.

Have a great weekend! xx

A Living Room Rug Refresh (& Giveaway!)

*This post is sponsored by RugPadUSA. All words and opinions are my own. Thanks for supporting the brands that support this blog!

As you may remember from our Woodstock trip a few weeks back, we left Vermont with some pretty awesome antique rugs! And one of those rugs was just the perfect size for the little space in our living room in front of the couch, so that is where it's been living ever since. We love it, but the one issue that we faced right away was that vintage rugs and hardwood floors don't exactly mix. I would move the rug to the perfect position, and then about a day later after having a few friends over or after mac chasing a toy over it, the rug would be all bunched up or in a completely different position. And with me being the perfectionist that I am, that wasn't going to fly!!
So when RugPadUSA reached out asking me to test out one of there American-made rug pads, it literally couldn't have been more perfect timing. It was answer to our rug issue, and luckily they had pads for almost any type of space and situation. You start by choosing your floor type (in our case it was hardwoods) and then you can see a list of rug pad options for that floor type from there, which are all rated in terms of cushion, durability, and grip. From our experience with our rug thus far, we knew we needed the absolute highest rating when it came to grip, but also wanted a bit of cushion since I often do workouts at home in that space in front of the TV and it's also Mac's favorite place to sleep. Here are the main options we considered!
^ 1 // 2 // 3 // 4

1. Premium Lock
Cushion: 5, Durability: 5, Grip: 5
This seems like pretty much the best rug pad you can get out there! It has a super sturdy rubber bottom, can be used on almost any type of floor (including a deck!) and is made from recycled materials. However, we decided it was just a bit too heavy duty for our little vintage rug.

2. Eco Solid
Cushion: 3, Durability: 5, Grip: 5
This is RugPadUSA's best gripping rug for even the most stubborn area rugs! If you didn't need much cushion, this would be the rug pad for you, but we just wanted a little more in terms of "comfort" than this one offered.

3. Super Lock Natural
Cushion: 2, Durability: 5, Grip: 5
This is their best-selling non-slip rug for hardwood floors. I loved that it was thin and all-natural and again would be a perfect option if you weren't looking for cushion.

4. Eco-Cushion
Cushion: 4, Durability: 5, Grip: 5
This is the one we went with! Because of it's soft nature, this rug pad is ideal for higher end oriental type rugs that you want to protect over time. We love that it ranked high in terms of grip while also still having a good amount of cushion for all the time we spend on it. Plus, it's eco-friendly and doesn't have any of those harmful chemical fillers that most imported pads have!
So thanks to RugPadUSA for solving our little rug slippage issue and making finding the right rug pad so easy! Our eco-cushion pad fits perfectly under our rug, feels great under foot, and isn't moving an inch. It's finally in its place and there to stay! And the best part of the process was that RugPadUSA makes all of their pads custom, so even if your rug isn't a standard size (like ours), there is an option right there to add custom measurements. Plus, free shipping doesn't hurt either.

Need a new rug pad for your home? RugPadUSA is generously giving one away to a lucky Mac & Marlborough reader! Simply head to their site, browse their rug pad options, and comment below with which rug pad you'd like to win (and which room you'd use it in!) to enter. :)
