Wedding Planning Update: 5 Months Out!

So I do realize that this blog has become somewhat of a wedding blog over the last few months. But this space is truly a reflection and natural documentation of our lives and to be honest, that's all we've had time for! Between work, travel, wedding planning and trying to make the most of our Sugarbush season passes on the weekends, there's just no time to squeeze in much of anything else. We do have a few DIY & decorating projects in the works (and yes, some are for the wedding!) so stay tuned. And in the meantime, a lot has happened since my last planning update back in September, so I'm sharing the strides we've made here today.

1. I found "the" dress! 
After a few appointments at Ceremony, Madelyn's Daughter, Sak's and finally L'elite, I found my wedding dress and I couldn't love it more. Luckily I had my mom, dad, sister, and a couple of my bridesmaids there to help calm my indecision and confirm that it was as beautiful as I thought it was. That's all I am going to say about that one!

2. We decided on wedding party attire
The boy's will be in blue suits & ties from Asos and the girls will be in various nude-colored dresses from Amsale. They will also be wearing flower crowns. :)
3. We booked our honeymoon
We are going to the Greek islands! You can read more about how we decided on a destination here.
4. We built a wedding website and started a registry
We used Squarespace to set up a wedding website and registered for gifts using Hatch My House and MyRegistry.com. I'm planning on writing a separate post about some great places we've found to register for unique gifts.
5. Save the dates are sent!
We took engagement photos with Jacob and then used one of those shots for our save the date. We worked with the amazing Lauren of A Fabulous Fete for the calligraphy, and she will also be doing our invitations and some other elements for the wedding. Her style is so unique and I'm pretty much obsessed with anything she does.
6. We booked a florist
I have lots of ideas when it comes to the florals at both the ceremony & the reception, so I am so excited to be working with talented girls at Petal Floral, who I know will bring my vision to life.

7. We booked a baker
We will be serving dessert at our wedding so won't be going crazy with a wedding cake, but we will have a small cake for cutting together & celebrating that moment. We are going to be working with Jocelyn of Mayflour Confections to whip up something lovely.
8. We booked a photobooth
Get excited, this pretty girl will be gracing our wedding to capture funny moments all night long!
9. We decided on a tent company
We will be using a sailcloth Sperry tent for the reception in my Grandma's backyard. The layout is still a bit TBD based on a site visit, but we are hoping for for an outdoor dance floor under nothing but the stars & string lights. :)

10. We booked a caterer
We will be working with our good family friend Tim Hopkins on all the delicious food for the big day. The exact menu is also still a bit up in the air, but we do know that there will be an epic cheese station and lots of seafood. I loved seeing Tim in this article I read recently about wedding menu trends!

11. We finalized lodging and transportation.
Given that Westport Point is a fairly quiet area, finding nearby housing for our families and wedding party was definitely a challenge. I give huge credit to my amazing MOB (mother of the bride) for taking on the logistical nightmare and not only finding lodging for all the bridesmaids, groomsmen & guests, but booking trolley transportation from all the different points of the day. It sounded like a massive tangled web but thankfully it's under control now!

So those are some of the major things we've tackled in the last few months. We're also looking forward to some fun plans in the near future, including cake and food tasting, flower consultations, design meetings, dance classes, site visits etc. And how am I feeling about it all? Honestly, pretty overwhelmed. I was experiencing a tiny bit of the planning stress back in the first month we were engaged, but I'm feeling that 10-fold now. I go back and read that post and literally think "girrrrl, you ain't seen nothin' yet!". I think I was on a bit of a recently-engaged happy cloud when I wrote that update but trust me, I'm back down to earth now. :) I obsess over details and there are more details involved in a wedding than I ever could have imagined! Plus, there are so many emotions mixed in so that adds a whole other layer of complexity to every decision and conversation. But at the same time, this is the type of stress I am OK with. Most of the decisions we need to make are incredibly fun and excited ones and I know that every little thing we accomplish will lead up to a day where we can sit back, relax, feel all the love that's around us, and know with out a doubt that every one of those details will be taken care of. But man right now, those details never sleep! I'm just trying to think of it as the first of many crazy & memorable adventures that josh and I will experience together. Thanks for following along!

  1. It seems like you guys are on fire right now! You make me feel kind of lazy because I have three months before my wedding and we aren't anywhere near as ready as you are. How did you decide which florist to use? My wife and I are having a very hard time deciding on that.   2. Wow!! Amazing shots captured by the photographer. I am really happy for you guys, and Greek Island is really a good place for honeymoon. I had went there with my friends once. You know dear, for my wedding day I had booked event venues Chicago and catering was done by famous caterers. I must say everything was so good in taste.
